Saturday 5 January 2008

Folger Theatre

201 E. Capitol St, SE

Washington, DC 20002

10am – 6:00pm

In anticipation of the Folger Consort’s performances on January 11th and 12th at the Washington National Cathedral, you are invited to participate in a special choral workshop on the music of Tomás Luis de Victoria (1548-1611).

Led by Philip Cave with Sally Dunkley and members of ORPHEUS, the workshop will study and sing movements from Victoria’s 1605 setting of the Office of the Dead, together with works by his contemporaries.

The workshop consists of morning and afternoon sessions at Folger Theatre and features a talk by Sally Dunkley on Victoria and his music. It concludes with an informal sing-through of the music in the Great Hall of the Folger Shakespeare Library, and a wine and cheese reception. Participants will also receive copies of music to take away and a discount on tickets to performances of Victoria's Requiem with Folger Consort.

Folger Consort, Robert Eisenstein and Christopher Kendall, Artistic Directors, joined by ORPHEUS and Renaissance wind band, PIFFARO, present rich and resonant works for winds, strings, and keyboard, with dazzling variations for all the players. Friday, January 11 at 8pm with pre-concert discussion at 6:30pm. Saturday, January 12 at 8pm. Call Folger Box Office at 202-544-7077 for discounted tickets.
